College of Medicine Peer Advancement Societies (COMPAS)

The Dean’s Council of Faculty Affairs (DCFA) is accepting applications for our college-wide COMPAS program, previously known as Mentoring Societies.

The COMPAS Program is a novel approach to mentoring junior faculty that began in 2015. This program is intended to supplement mentoring that junior faculty may be receiving within their own departments and to enable junior faculty to expand their professional networks at the College of Medicine. The goal of these Societies is to provide an opportunity for faculty new to academic medicine to engage in peer-mentoring while also benefiting from guidance from content experts and more experienced faculty. This program, which supplements existing departmental mentoring programs, also allows for the development of professional relationships and collaborations across departments.

There is a six-month commitment to this program. Sessions will be held every second Thursday of the month, 7-9 a.m., starting on Jan. 13, 2022. Sessions will begin with a one-hour workshop or lecture that will be open to all faculty at COM-T, followed by a one-hour debrief and group discussion with the individual COMPAS groups.

Each COMPAS group will be assigned a DCFA member to be your liason. This faculty liason will be your point of contact for questions and concerns and will help you connect with people, resources and services to help you reach your goals. .

Application Guidelines


  • Current faculty member at the College of Medicine - Tucson
  • <5 years in academic medicine

If you are interested in participating in COMPAS, please submit the following:

  1. Statement of interest and goals for participation in the program as well as your commitment to attend all monthly sessions
  2. Letter of support from your department head or division chief
